Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis administrative employees are moving into their new offices in a five-story East Memphis office building.

The move, which began in mid-March and should be complete by late April, signals a further withdrawal from Baptist’s longtime home in the Medical Center area.

The new $24 million facility, at 350 N. Humphreys Blvd., is roughly behind Christian Brother High School. The building has about 185,000 square feet, all of which will be leased by Baptist.

Employees in offices on the fifth floor began moving first.

“Our moving process is, we’re moving from the top floor down.” Baptist spokesman Echelle Lane said. “Basically, (that’s) to sustain operations as seamlessly as possible, so that only a few departments at a time are having to move and other departments can keep working."

The building will include a variety of Baptist departments, including information systems, human resources, corporate communications and community relations.

Baptist plans to donate much of the Medical Center property to the Memphis Biotech Foundation which intends to create a biomedical research park. Baptist will also lease some of the property to the University of Tennessee, Memphis.
