Capitol View lands Pilates studio
Club Pilates eyes mid-November opening in North Gulch mixed-use district
Capitol View has secured its latest tenant, with Club Pilates set for a mid-November opening in the mixed-use building to be anchored by a Publix grocery store.
Thomas Fielder, the local franchisee for the Irvine, California-based chain, said this will be his third Nashville-area Club Pilates. The health/fitness service business will take a ground-floor space in the building, which sits at the northeast corner of the intersection of 11th and Charlotte avenues and will be home to the soon-to-open The Residences at Capitol View.
Fielder is not disclosing the cost to get operational or the terms of his lease with Capitol View developer Boyle Investment Co.
A permit, valued at about $171,000, has been issued to allow for the build-out of the roughly 2,100-square-foot space. Franklin-based MTLC Building Group is handling the work.
Fielder operates Club Pilates Indian Lake (opened in March 2017) and Club Pilates Belle Meade (opened in September 2017). He is targeting a January opening for Club Pilates Maryland Farms. The Capitol View outpost will be called Club Pilates North Gulch.
“I’ve wanted to open a studio downtown, but it was important to me that our members have ample free parking,” Fielder said, adding that Club Pilates is a “reformer-based Pilates” (via which users incorporate pulley, strings and straps on a machine called a reformer as opposed to using exercise floor mats).
The announcement of the Pilates studio opening comes as officials with locally based Jón Alan Salons announced last week they will open a shop in the North Gulch building in late October.
Fielder said he is planning to open two more studios by 2019’s end. He declined to identify the locations.
At Club Pilates North Gulch, everybody will be an employee (as opposed to a contractor). About 13 employees are expected, Fielder said.
The 378 apartments at The Residences at Capitol View are pre-leasing and an early October opening is eyed. Other retailers include Valerie Boutique, which is set to open in December, and the Publix, an opening date for which has not been announced.
Nationwide, Club Pilates offers about 322 studios that either are open or in pre-sale mode.
Of note, Inc. magazine ranked Club Pilates in the top five fastest-growing franchises in the country
“I’m excited about Capitol View and being part of a mixed-use community,” Fielder said.
The late German physical trainer Joseph Pilates developed the physical fitness system in the early 20th century. It is now practice primarily in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
