Collierville YMCA Offers Child Care

– The Collierville Herald –

Registration is under way for the YMCA at Schilling Farms 1998-1999 educational enrichment program which provides before and after-school care for elementary and middle school children.

Registration for the program is taking place at the YMCA branch in Collierville at 777 West Poplar Ave., Suite 103.

Students wishing to take part in the program will stay in the before or after-school care at Collierville Elementary School, Crosswind Elementary School or Tara Oaks Elementary School under the supervision of trained YMCA workers.

“The educational enrichment program offers a positive environment that focuses on academic achievement, healthy lifestyles, physical activity, value development, and strong relationships,” said Kim Ballard, executive director of the YMCA. “As with all YMCA programs, four values are emphasized-honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility. Children are fully supervised while they are under YMCA care. They have time to do their homework and participate in recreational activities. We offer arts and crafts, games, organized sports, fitness programs, and swimming.”

All YMCA educational enrichment sites are licensed day care centers under the jurisdiction of the Department of Human Services. All of the facilities undergo a yearly intensive review and frequent inspections. Also, the YMCA provides liability insurance, staff and the materials for special activities.

Throughout the Mid-South area, the YMCA offers 36 child care sites and picks up children from 54 schools for before and after-school care. Last year, the YMCA cared for over 2,600 students.

There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee and weekly rates for before-school care range from $23-$28 and after-school rates from $28-$36.
