Collierville YMCA to Have Grand Opening Saturday

The Schilling Farms YMCA will have its grand opening for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at 1185 Schilling Farms Boulevard in Collierville.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, events will include entertainment and activities such as aerobic and martial arts demonstrations, heritage folk dancing, live music, door prizes, clowns, face painting and balloon artists.

There also will be a space walk, dunk tank, and carnival games and prizes.

The outdoor pool will be open to the public for swimming from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Doll-Fins synchronized team will perform in the pool, and H20 Scuba will provide free diving lessons.

The 28,000-square-foot facility will offer an indoor and outdoor pool, running track, nursery, aerobics equipment, racquetball courts, youth summer camps, youth sports, before-and after-school child care, saunas, hot tubs and locker rooms.

The YMCA also has partnered with St. Francis Hospital to create an on-site outpatient facility.

The St. Francis staff at Schilling Farms will include a physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech pathologist.

Donations include the property, which was donated by Harry Smith, who also contributed a $75,000 founding membership.

Other major donors, who gave a total of $800,000 for the new facility, include Pepsi/Delta Beverage, St. Francis Hospital, the Town of Collierville, Carrier Corporation, First Tennessee Bank, Standard Construction, NationsBank and two anonymous donors.

Founding members contributed about $120,000, and the YMCA also sold more than 500 charter memberships at $100 each.
